- Exam duration: 110 minutes
- Final Exam is cumulative
Subjects covered
The final exam will cover all of the material presented in class. This corresponds to selected topics in Chapters 01–11, 13-16 of College Physics, 1st Ed. By Knight, Jones & Field. Approximately half of the exam will focus on the material covered up to the second midterm with the other half focusing on the more recent material (i.e., chapters 10, 11, 13-16). These more recent topics include:
- Ch. 10: Concept of energy, energy transformations and transfers, conservation of energy and isolated systems, definition of work Kinetic and potential energy, thermal energy, energy in collisions, power
- Ch. 11: Use of energy in the human body, calories, efficiency
- Ch. 13: Properties of fluids, density, pressure, dependence of pressure on depth in an incompressible fluid, Archimedes' principle (buoyant force), Bernoulli's principle
- Ch. 14: Simple harmonic motion, period, frequency, restoring force, mass oscillating on a spring, pendulums, energy conservation and transformations in simple harmonic motion, resonance
- Ch. 15: Wave properties, medium, wave speed, sinusoidal waves, wavelength, amplitude, longitudinal and transverse waves, intensity and dB, doppler effect, shock waves
- Ch. 16: Principle of superposition, constructive and destructive interference, standing waves and resonant modes, fundamental frequencies and harmonics, interference of two waves, beats
.
